Allsop supports Alport UK Charity

Allsop supports the innovative rare disease charity Alport UK by providing London office-space for their in-person meetings. Alport UK supports people living with Alport Syndrome by connecting them to other individuals and families (through information and social days around the country) and by collaborating on international research to advance treatments and knowledge.
Alport Syndrome impacts hearing, kidneys and eyes and typically progresses when children start to lose their hearing in the first decade and then lose kidney function in their second decade. Alport UK’s small team, located across the UK, work virtually to save funds so more is spent on supporting people and collaborating on research.
The Alport team use Allsop office space to spend a day a month, in person working together in London. Alport UK’s work around the world, raising awareness of the condition, means more pharmaceutical companies are interested in developing treatments for Alport Syndrome. So Alport UK now also uses Allsop office space to meet with the commercial teams of the pharmaceutical companies and bio-techs to advance ideas on treatments and possible clinical trials. This practical and vital partnership between Allsop and Alport UK means the Allsop office space saves Alport UK a lot of money and provides the vital high-quality corporate environment for Alport UK to meet colleagues in person, connect as a team, and be taken very seriously by small or large commercial companies.
Alport Syndrome impacts the family of Allsop Partner and Commercial Auctioneer, George Walker. Two of George’s sons, in their early 20s, recently received life-changing kidney transplants. George’s wife Susie donated a kidney to their youngest son Jamie in November 2024. The family run three sets of the latest hearing aids which enable them to participate in life to the full, but they appreciate that many employers are not as supportive and families are not as positive about their condition. Working with Alport UK, helps George’s family share their practical experiences of living with Alport Syndrome and it also means they each feel less alone on what can be a challenging journey living with a rare disease that impacts many members of their family.
